It has taken us over two years to find a place to call home. Tully Mountain Suris is now nestled on 7.5 acres in the quaint New England town of Petersham, located in the hills of north central Massachusetts. This area is also known as the North Quabbin Woods, where forests, farms and small towns are a way of life.

The acreage was heavily forested; trees and stumps have been removed, with the exception of selected hardwoods for shade trees. Rocks and boulders also had to be removed in order to grow orchard grass for our future pastures. Predator-proof fencing installed around the perimeter to keep our herd safe.

Our 40’ X 72’ barn designed to house our suri alpaca herd will protect them from the New England winters and keep them comfortable during the heat of summer. A twelve-foot overhang will run along the east side of the barn to provide adequate shade and protection from rain. Automatic heated waterers will be installed inside the barn.

Cold New England winters will force the suris inside at times; therefore we plan to build several “litter boxes” for our alpacas. The barn will also have an open area for shearing and a warming room. A farm store to sell alpaca products will be located in a section of the house that is dedicated to the alpaca business.

Tully Mountain Suris’ “starter” herd was composed of four females and one male. We carefully selected our alpacas from two alpaca farms that specialize in suri alpacas, Bouldermont Farm in NH and Breakstone Ridge in WI. All our suri alpacas are registered with The Alpaca Registry (ARI), the only registry recognized in the US. The registry requires DNA samples for proof of parentage.
Our foundation herd consists of well-conformed suris with outstanding suri characteristics. The lineage of our foundation stock is impressive and includes 1/2 Accoyo WRSR Peruvian Maelstrom, Sergeant Major Jax, Pperuvian Juan, Empresario (Bolivian), Acero Marka’s Nick (Bolivian), Accoyo Crown Royale, Accoyo Baccarat, Accoyo Bruxo, 3/4 Accoyo WRSR Navajo Gold, PVA Mahogany Prince, Bugatti of PVA, SBS Crown Luster, WLRG Dune, 4Peruvian Sargento, Pperuvian Uribe, Lumino (Bolivian), DAFI Gonzo and 4Peruvian Sheriff. These bloodlines represent some of the finest genetics in the US and Canada.

Tully Mountain Suris expects to be a mid-size breeding program of 35-40 elite suri alpacas. Our breeding plans are not restricted to “country pure” or “color pure”. We outcross and line-breed for the best suri characteristics: a uniform dense fleece with independence of lock, brilliant luster, slippery handle, outstanding conformation and temperament. Our goal is to offer exceptional suri breeding stock to new and established suri breeders and for the future of the North American suri industry.

We are members of the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (AOBA), Suri Network, The Alpaca Registry (ARI) and the New England Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (NEAOBA).
